Wolftime
October 5, 2009
I’ve decided to setup a separate blog for my Space Wolves as I build them, it can be found here:
Update Shocker!
October 5, 2009
So I may have been slightly remiss in my updates recently. However I’ve actually not just been sitting around twiddling my thumbs.
I’ve been working on a number of random miniatures:
First off:
My very much WIP Avatar

Forgeworld Avater WIP

Forgeworld Avatar WIP - From the back
Next, a Grey Knights Marine I found in my bits box. I wanted to experiment with the various Citadel Washes available.

Grey Knight with Psycannon
Next in a moment of extreme randomness I bought a Plague Marine box. I was inspired by a post on a random internet forum which had an excellent method of painting Plague Marines. I’ve always wanted to paint a squad but previously felt that they were likely to be horribly painful to paint.
I was rather wrong:

Plague Marine with Plasma Gun

Plague Champion

Plague Marine with Bolter
Previously I’d bought a large order of DKoK goodies from Forgeworld. I had a short break from painting them due to an airbrush malfunction but recently I’ve finished a couple of models.
First the thudd quad launcher

Quad with crew

Quad with crew 2
I also started painting the centaur… still need to finish the crew:

Centaur 1

Centaur 2
Finally in preparation for the release of Codex Space Wolves I painted up a very old Space Wolf miniature I had knocking about in my bits box:

Wolf Guard
His base and fur are not finished but I’m quite pleased overall…
Demolisher – Finished at last
July 5, 2009
I’ve finshed the first of my Death Guard of Krieg Tanks – the Demolisher I’ve had cluttering up my desk for a few weeks.
The transfer sheet from FW arrived which spurred me onto adding the finishing touches to the model.
I’ve weathered the tracks, applied a set of transfers and given the whole thing a coat of Matt Varnish to pull the colours together (and to stop the weathering powders from rubbing off – well at least in theory).

Army Pages
June 27, 2009
Although I intended this blog to mainly act as a record my Works in Progress (and the final result at the end of the work), I’ve created a set of pages to show some of the armies / sets of miniatures I’ve previously painted over the last 5 years. I’ve added an Armies page which can be found here.
First off I’ve included my Dark Angels, Space Wolves and some of the numerous Pre-Heresy Astartes miniatures I’ve painted (with varying levels of success).
WIP: Mechanicus Knight
June 25, 2009
The knight has received a coat of Codex Gray via my ‘still misbehaving’ airbrush. Once I’ve fixed the cursed thing I’ll give it another light coat to cover some of the spots I’ve missed.
Then it’s a coat of Fortress Gray on the main armour plates before I think about starting the armour edge lining with Desert Yellow / Kommando Khaki… spot the trend…

WIP Mechanicus Knight
June 24, 2009
Given my current momentum modelling wise, I decided to take a stab at finishing one of my half built Mechanicus Knights which has been lying (in bits) on my desk for over 2 years.
I’d originally given it quite stupidly undersized feet which needed to be removed. Once done, I added a new set of scratchbuilt toes (complete with pistons and the like).
Now it looks more like an armoured aquatic bird than a one man weapon of war. However being the engineering geek that I am, I couldn’t realistically see how anything could stand up without faily large feet (humans have a significant foot length / height ratio). So geekness aside, I’m fairly pleased with it.
Here it is with its new black undercoat. The picture of it doesn’t really do the thing justice – I really must get a better setup for taking pictures….

Undercoated Mechanicus Knight - minus weapons
As you can see, half way through taking the picture it developed an alarming lean forwards so I had to ‘borrow’ a handy container to prop it up while the repair glue set.
Hopefully I’ll post some better pictures of it tomrrow (minus the Turps jar..)
WIP: Demolisher Cont’d
June 23, 2009
In addition to finishing off the Chimera which has been cluttering up the desk (and several times nearly the bin), I’ve made limited progress on the Demolisher.
I’ve painted the plasma guns and the front lascannon with Boltgun Metal and then applied a fairly diluted Burnt Ocre wash. When the turps had started to evaporate (and my eyes started to water) I blended some of the excess oil paint on each gun. The result is a dirty, used looking set of weapons – shiny, but not ‘GW’ shiny.

Demolisher WIP Now With Guns Part Painted
I also dry brushed Tin Bits over the Demolisher barrel and then airbrushed a thin random covering of Black paint to tone down the barrel while still having a hint of metal.
While waiting for the guns to dry, I also worked on the twin exhausts. A mixture of rust pigments and brown oil paints were randomly applied to both.

WIP Demolisher Exhausts
Next stop will be to complete the tracks and dirty up the front hull section which frankly looks too clean and tidy at present.
Chimera Complete
June 23, 2009
I finally completed the turret today (after much faffing about with hairspray) and discovering new ways spill White Spirit on my desk.

Chimera Turret
I found that brown oil paints work well in producing a muted metal look, allowing the turrets puny multi-laser to blend into the rest of the turret which now looks suitably battle worn.
I’ve also finished the tracks and given the whole model a coat of matt varnish to blend everything together (and fix the weathering powders I’ve been dusting on for what seems several weeks).
Anyways, here’s the first Chimera completed in all its battered / melted ‘glory’…

Completed Chimera Front
I’m quite pleased how the ‘overkill’ rusted track guard has turned out. It wasn’t originally planned thus.

Pre-Heresy Death Guard
June 21, 2009
I’ve been interested in Pre-Heresy Marines for a while. I don’t have the attention span to complete a whole army of them (this is probably true of any army to be fair…)
Anyways, I’ve made a few Death Guard miniatures in my time, through a combination of scratch building with Plasticard and kit bashing from GW and FW components.

Random Eldar
June 21, 2009
When I’m not swearing at my airbrush or deliberately making clean paintwork look like its been in the garden for two months, I’ve been painting some other random miniatures.

Dark Angels Terminator Chaplain
